Hi, guys.
I'm here to ask another question from Simpsons.
this is line from Quimby the mayor.

"And now, to help secure the jazz vote, Lisa Simpson will play her saxophone."
(for more part of script, please go to http://www.springfieldspringfield.co.uk/view_episode_scripts.php?tv-show=the-simpsons&episode=s26e06)

Before that line, there had been a ceremony (time capsule burying), and after that line, it was raining so jazz play was stopped. I can't get the "help secure the jazz vote" meaning. please help me if you have some idea about it.

Thank you in advance :)

Politicians will do many things to secure the votes of specific sections of the electorate ("the youth vote... the Asian vote... the pensioners' vote", etc.) This is a joke that suggests that jazz-lovers will vote for the mayor because he has Lisa playing jazz to the voters.
