Dear all,
I am reading an essay where I found the following sentence: "This event inspired Beethoven the sonata": is it syntactically correct (in a formal context)?
Many thanks for your help!

Please give us the source and the author– it doesn't sound right at first reading. (Are there any obvious mistakes in the essay?)

Thank you for your reply. It's a proof, so I cannot give you the source, but I can confirm that the author isn't a native...
    So, how to rephrase?
    Thanks!

That a certain biographical event induced Beethoven to write a certain sonata.
"This event inspired Beethoven to compose the sonata" would be acceptable?
