to <keep the way of> the tree of life

< Previous | Next >

Anne, in the movie The Others, is reading a Bible: "Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man and placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way to keep the way of the tree of life."

I don't understand the phrase in bold:(
Thank you.

Most modern translations say "guard." This version is from the King James Bible, which was translated in 1769, and contains many archaic usages.
