    Hello,

    1. We have sent a telegram to our father.

    2. We have sent a telegram to father.

Is it imperative to put 'our' ?

    It's not that simple.

You can use either but you need to capitalize "Father" in the second because it is used as a name, i.e.

    2. We have sent a telegram to Father.

(Note that not all English speakers call their fathers "Father," but many, including my brothers-in-law, do.)
