‘Good evening, my friend,’ said Alfie the painter.
‘Afternoon,’ Freddie replied with a satisfying spritz of pedantry. ‘Hello, darling.’ His mum turned briefly and hit him with a smile the likes of which he had not known she was capable of producing.

Context: Freddie gets hone and he sees his mum chatting with the painter Alfie.

spritz in a satisfying spritz of pedantry refers to the satisfaction that one experiences when drinking the initial wine-
based drink or to a small dose of spray?

thank you.

Have you looked up the word pedantry?

Look up the word and you will see how it applies to saying "afternoon" to someone who greeted you by saying "good evening."

    Pedantry is not a beverage.
