To shorten it/ To cut it short/To abbreviate it?

Hello amigos!:)

It´s a long story but to shorten it/to cut it short/ to abbreviate it, I got married to her eventually.

Might I use such verbs interchangeably in this case above?

    You could, (perhaps varied as I suggest below), but by far the most common expression is "...but to cut a long story short.."

    You might also say "It's a long story but here's the abbreviated version:"

    Or, "It's a long story, but I'll shorten it", or "...but I'll get straight to the punchline".

    I think the first is still my favourite.
