The little-understood concept of interdependence appears to many to smack of dependence, and therefore, we find people, often for selfish reason, leaaving there marraiges, ....... --- all in the name of independence.

What is the meaning of smack in this sentence? Thanks a lot!

Please tell us where you found this sentence, Meatling. (Have you looked up "smack" in the dictionary?)
Thanks! It is from "The 7 Habits of highly effective people" by Stephen R. Covey.
I just checked the dictionary and found it might be a slang.
