    Ten en cuenta que normalmente se dice "el peaje" sin más: "no queda mucho para el peaje", "acabamos de pasar el peaje", etc.

    Claro que si tienes que traducir la palabra suelta, entonces sí, "caseta de peaje" (en España)

    but we do say it: peaje.

    I saw it often in Cuernavaca, Guanajuato and Queretaro.

    I just want to point out that in México's highways, you can read "caseta de cobro" on all the signs near the toolboths. There might be some people who say "peaje" but not the vast majority.
