Hello everyone, I have one little question about these two words. Is every interpreter a translator? Or the interpreter translates only orally and translator - only in writing and those two words shouldn't be mixed?
a person who translates written messages from one language to another interpreter
someone who mediates between speakers of different languages
Dictionary definitions sometimes present these terms as synonyms. In idiomatic English there is usually a clear distinction, with interpreter used to name someone who converts speech from one language to another, and translator focused on the written word.
