How would you translate, e.g., in this context: In my last position, I was responsible for troubleshooting computer problems.

(Sorry for posting 2 questions so close together; I'm new here & I recently applied for a position where I may have to speak to someone on phone in French for a brief interview... And I AM rusty!!)

    Dépannage can be good yes. :thumbsup: Diagnostic no because it does not involve that the problem is fixed, just that it's known.
    So we can say "J'étais responsable du dépannage informatique" or "J'étais responsable de la résolution de problèmes informatiques", Savon19 will choose what he/she likes !
    Edit : ooops crossed answers algoud. But I'm pretty sure "dépannage informatique" can be right, no ?

    I knew the word Dépannage and Le Grand Dictionnaire Terminologique talked about Diagnostic des pannes...

    So... I don't know :confused: !

    I think Dépannage informatique is, as you said, very good :idea:

    Please could someone just confirm that "dépannage" is an appropriate term for a formal document (ex : formulaire administrative). "En panne" "dépannage" etc. are not colloquialismes?

    Je remplis un formulaire administrative, je dois lister les fonctionnes de différentes services d'une entreprise. Par exemple, "tel groupe est responsable de l'entretien et [dépannage] des systèmes informatiques".

    Bonjour à tous,

    Comment traduiriez-vous "troobleshooting skills", dans le petit paragraphe d'un CV (donc il faudrait dans l'idéal une expression courte).

    La phrase:
    "A manager with strong trouble-shooting skills. "

    Mon essai: Un manager avec de grandes capacités pour résoudre les problèmes.

    Mais je n'arrive pas à trouver une formule plus synthétique. Any idea?

    To troubleshoot = diagnotiquer
    A trouble shoot = un diagnostic

    "Depanner" is more an equivalent of "to fix"

    But I realise that for some people to troubleshoot means to identify the source of the trouble and to fix it.
    In my mind it just means to identify the source of the trouble.

    When I troubleshoot a computer, I just try to find out why it doesn't work, what's the problem.
    When I found out the reason, the troubleshoot is finished.
    When I make it work again, I fix it.
    And when the unit work again, I don't say to my customer: "Your computer is troubleshooted". I say "Your computer is fixed" or "the problem is fixed" or again "the problem is solved"

    But I'm maybe wrong.
    Does someone can confirm ?
