Hello,

A celebrated legal case, in 1734–1735, involved John Peter Zenger, a newspaper printer. Significantly, the case arose in New York, reflecting the tumultuous give-and-take of politics in the middle colonies, where so many different ethnic groups jostled against one another.

    tumultuous = bustling, disorderly
    give and take = toing and froing / interaction and compromise (between the various ethnic groups)
