to translate "I am typing" into Italian I need to say the whole phrase, "sto battendo alla macchina"?????
seems too long... and for the computer keyboard, "macchina"?

    It could be "Digitare" but "Sto digitando" sounds to me a little odd, at least I'm not used saying in that way!

    I guess you can also say " Scrivo/sto scrivendo al computer"..

    "digito o sto digitando " sounds a bit weird , at least for me..

    "battere a macchina " is the literal translation ...

    Maverik, don't you think that nowadays " battere a macchina" is a little bit outdated ?

    Yes , I think so too . In fact I said we usullay say "Scrivo / sto scivendo al computer" .

    "Digito " or "sto digitando " is a form that we often use in writing but not easily in speaking, or at least it is me I don't use it.
