Hi, me again, with another quote from Jardiel Poncela.

I think I understood most of this one (ah, the joys of having a Romance language as your native tongue ), but I need some sort of confirmation or correction:

"Un buen amigo os dirá siempre la verdad: salvo en el caso de que la verdad sea agradable."

My try:
"A good friend will always speak (tell you?) the truth, unless the truth is something agreeable."


Is there a way I can polish this to make it look better? Do you think it's ok?
(By the way, this is just for my mini-quotes collection )

I would say:
A good friend will always tell you the truth, save when the truth is pleasant.

or 'except' rather than 'save' but 'save' is more poetic, in my opinion.

I like the "unless." And "pleasant" is definitely an excellent choice.
