Un buen amigo os dirá siempre la verdad: salvo en el caso de que la verdad sea agradable.

Hi, me again, with another quote from Jardiel Poncela.

I think I understood most of this one (ah, the joys of having a Romance language as your native tongue :D), but I need some sort of confirmation or correction:

"Un buen amigo os dirá siempre la verdad: salvo en el caso de que la verdad sea agradable."

My try:
"A good friend will always speak (tell you?) the truth, unless the truth is something agreeable."

Is there a way I can polish this to make it look better? Do you think it's ok?
(By the way, this is just for my mini-quotes collection :))

Thank you

    I would say:
A good friend will always tell you the truth, save when the truth is pleasant.

or 'except' rather than 'save' but 'save' is more poetic, in my opinion.
    Cheers

A good friend will always tell you the truth, unless the truth turns to be something nice.
Como que no me suena ...

Thank you, Bibliolept. Looks like I'll keep the "unless" then, and use Gillsterman's "pleasant."
