A slot is kept in the head of a public bus to fit in a board/plank that says the route retails (origin and destination) and its number; this board is often changed when the route is so changed.

But in certain bus body models, it is not possible to change these boards/plank. Can one call such boards/planks as unalterable?

Usually in most cases, the entire board is replaced with a new board and the same is often done. But in another category, it is not so. Please give an adjective for such boards (like unreplaceable). (sorry, I missed to write what is most needed.)

Could you explain a little more, please? In the first post you say it is not possible to change the boards and in the third you say that they are often replaced. I'm confused.
