How is the indicated word being used in the context? I would appreciate your expertise. I know that uncion generally means annointing, but that is not how it is being used here.

Con tan buenas bases se preparó al sacerdocio. Una vez ordenado, sus ocupaciones principales fueron el confesionario y el púlpito. En las distintas casas de las que fue conventual ocupó siempre el cargo de "Predicador Mayor". El pueblo cristiano de Andújar, Ronda, Jaén y Ubeda gozó de su elocuencia y unción.

    The RAE's fourth definition may be useful here:
    4. f. Devoción, recogimiento y perfección con que el ánimo se entrega a la exposición de una idea, a la realización de una obra, etc.

    So maybe the idea is that he was especially devoted to his work as a priest.

    I would put it this way:
