Hi natives,

I have a curiosity about expressions.
Does below sentences sound natural and colloquial?
If not, would you recommend better one, please?

It sounded like it was not so much negotiable as unilateral(one sided) notification(notice).
and that's why I thought there's no room to negotiate paycheck.

context: you had an interview, and finally you got accepted in that company, but the amount of paycheck that the interviewer notified unilaterally to you after the interview was not satisfactory and so you decide to seek for another company . Then, the interviewer dissuade you from your leaving asking how much paycheck would be satisfactory to work for him
Then, can you say like above?

Thanks in advance

I would just say something like:
It sounded like the salary was nonnegotiable, so I didn't question it. / so I didn't bring it up for discussion. /so I didn't broach the subject/ so I assumed there was no room for discussion.
