How do you say in Russian "up to now"? I'm afraid that до сих пор is not the good way to say that...

Well, yes it is a good way.

All these "up 'til now", "thus far", "up to now", and so forth are translated as "до сих пор не", or "пока еще не".

About "не" - all those phrases in English are used to describe the existing process in negative sentences:

Up 'til now he hasn't sent it. - Он до сих пор это не послал.
We hadn't seen the result so far - мы до сих пор не видели результатов.

The Russian phrase may be used in non-negative statements too.
Мы до сих пор любим ходить за грибами.

Shouldn't it be we have not seen the result so far?
