Friends,

Today I got my writing corrected by and Urdu speaker. In a sentence, I was using کے لِئے, and he told me that, although لِئے is technically correct, 99% of people would use لِیے ?

Is this true? (i.e. is لِئے so unusual to the point of looking odd?)
If true, does this preference for یے also apply to all the rest of the + [e] vowel unions?

(*) Incidentally, I went to the Urdu Lughat and looked up لِئے
It turns out that even the examples have the word re-written as لِیے 😄

I don't know about any percentages but I would say this is an exaggeration. لئے is very common. I've written this word in this way all my life. However, in a book called "اردو کیسے لکھیں", the author رشید حسن خان advises people to write لیے. So, take your pick. I don't believe either is wrong.
