How should one understand the phrase ارادتاً نہ سہی in the following context. This is from a Urdu novel titled hamsafar by Farhat Ishtiyaq:
ان کی اکلوتی، چھوٹی اور بیوہ بہن ان کی یتیم بھانجی، جو ان کی محبت اور توجہ کی حق دار تھیں۔ جن کی خبرگیری کرنا ان پر فرض تھا اور وہ اپنے اس فرض سے ارادتاً نہ سہی۔ غفلت برتنے کے مرتکب ہوئے تھے۔
Does the phrase mean:
‘Of course not intentional’
Or
‘If not intentional’?

ارادۃً would be the correct spelling although it seems writing tanviin with an alif is the done thing these days.
