Urdu: کسی کی کیوں

SaaHibaan o SaaHibaat,

I have come across the following sentence in the online grammar I am translating. It does not make sense to me. A translation of the whole is desired. Also, the phrase کسی کی کیوں is new to me and I think it may be an Urdu idiom. The usual online dictionaries give nothing for it but google shows that it is widely used. Here is the sentence for your scrutiny:

وہ بڑے ضدی ہین۔ کسی کی کیوں ماننے لگے آخر ہمیں کو دینا پڑا۔

I believe, there is an interplay between two idioms here:
1) "کسی کی (بات) ماننا \ سُننا" where the "baat" is unexpressed. It means "to pay heed to someone's advice", "to do as someone else advises".
2) An idiomatic use of "کیوں", whose meaning I cannot quite put my fingure on. So, I'll wait as well for a more enlightened reply.

I am afraid an exact literal translation is not possible, but I can give the translation which accurately translates the meaning. Bold letters gives the translation of the phrase in question.

وہ بڑے ضدی ہین۔ کسی کی کیوں ماننے لگے آخر ہمیں کو دینا پڑا۔

He is very stubborn - why would he listen to anyone. Finally we had to give in.

You have both made this clearer for me. I need to read the phrase as in bold in two parts. کسی کی plus کیوں ماننے لگے.

Does دینا پڑا really mean 'give in'? That is news to me!

Could either of you add any thoughts to this usage for دینا پڑا?

دینا پڑا literally means - "had to give <some unnamed object>". I took the liberty to translate it as "give in", which means "to yield", or "to surrender", which broadly implies the same thing.
