Dear Foreros,

In real life is a common phrase used in the English language pertaining to having done something in reality rather than virtually or to experience it. It's used mostly in contrast to the virtual world. I have never spoken/met to him in real life and so on and so forth. An online podcast has included an IRL version where they can be seen rather than just heard. How can the IRL sentiment be expressed in the languages above.

Here's my attempt for Urdu. In my opinion it can be as simple as Asl meN I.e. in reality. "Merii us se kabhii asl meN mulaaqaat nahiiN hu'ii". I've never had the chance to meet him/her in real life.

However, in the following example sentence more clarity would be needed:

"Real life meN aisaa nahiiN hotaa". Now asl meN (dar-asl) or even Haqiiqat (dar-Haqiqat) meN would suffice again but there are a few alternatives in Asl (yaa Haqiiqii) ziist/zindagi/zindaganii/Hayaat meN aisaa nahiiN hotaa.
I would love to hear your thoughts and am especially curious as to how the matter would be expressed in all 3 languages. Transliterations are always appreciated for proper pronunciation.

Regards,
Sheikh

اصل/حقیقی زندگی - aSl/Haqiiqii zindagii are most commonly used.
    • عملی زندگی - 3amalii zindagii - practical life
