Urdu : nauj

One grammar says that the particle (according to another version - interjection) "nauj" is used to express in Urdu a sharp negative answer or a categorical appeal. Nothing more is said about this. What can be said about the use of this particle in the modern language. And it was also interesting to know about its origin.

It's origin is نعوذُ بالله na3uuzu billaah (We seek shelter in God) and one meaning from an Urdu perspective is "xudaa na-xvaastah" (Allah nah kare / God forbid). Strong denial is also one of the meanings as you will see in the Urdu Lughat above. This word is considered to be part of Urdu speaking women's speech register of a period which is in the past now (as far as I know).
