Chicken pox can be spelled as one word or two.

Varicella is the medical term for the childhood illness. No one but doctors calls it that. Everyone else says chicken pox.

Herpes zoster, or just zoster, is the term for the painful skin rash commonly called shingles which is caused when the varicella zoster virus comes out of a dormant state during adulthood.
