When I was a little girl, I read from a book that there is an amazing country with variously geographic landscapes and unique creatures.

First, should I change is into was?
Second, does the phrase in bold sound right? If not, how would you change it? Thanks.

"There is an amazing country" - it is OK to use the present tense because presumably that country still exists.

    Various geographical landscapes.

To me, the sentence would still make sense if you said "with geographically various landscapes". :)
