Hello folks.

I don't get the difference between these two.

1 . To have got the job in the face of such stiff competition was a great achievement.

2. To have got the job in the face of such stiff competition would have been a great achievement.

In bo
th the sentences the person didn't get the job .
I would like to know is there any difference in their meanings.
Thanks.
