was playing/ was being played

Is this sentence correct:

Context: I woke up at 5 am and I heard a strange music, at first I think that the music is only in my head.
"I realized that the music was real and was playing in the house"

Is this last sentence correct ? To me it sounds very strange I would say:
" I realized that the music was real and that it was being played in the house"

thank you for your help

I like the original -- it's like "music was playing in the background." It's what we say. We don't need the operator putting the needle on the record and playing it for us to make sense of the music. :)
