wave of .... stalks everywhere

    They both sound quite odd to me. A wave can't stalk anything; it's a mixed metaphor.

    A wave of the H1N1 virus sweeps across/inundates/floods/breaks upon the city.
    A wave of anger rises up/mounts in society.

    I can see either of these working. If you keep the image of a wave in mind it helps with the selection of the verb.
