Is it the imperative BE? I think that the answer "We are ourselves" would mean a different thing.

    I read that this is a quote from a movie. I think it makes perfect sense. I am not trying to say anything except find out how you see it. I see it like this.

    We be ourselves! = We should be ourselves or we should keep on being ourselves!
    We are ourselves! = We are who we are, which is ourselves.

    Yes, insofar as anyone would actually say that in the form of an imperative, it would be "We be ourselves". :)

    Is it OK to use it with imperative sentences?

    - Be nice to Jane!
    - I be nice to her! (or should it be "I'll be nice to her")
