Why did the writer use the present simple tense here?

There are at least four verb forms which could be used here with no difference in meaning

We leave
We are leaving
We will leave
We will be leaving

It’s the speaker’s choice : there isn’t really any nuance.

The present tense is often used to describe the future. This is a perfect example.

A planned future. As Grassy says, it indicates something that has been scheduled.
