we were very pleased to oblige/indulge her

Hello wise WR people,

I am writing a recommendation letter for a student who stayed in our team last summer.
I want to say that, after she was done with her mandatory project, she volunteered to stay longer.

For now, I wrote "She volunteered to extend her stay in our lab over the summer and we were very pleased to oblige" but I don't want it to sound as if we were compelled in doing so. We were very happy to keep her because she was good.
Would "... we were very pleased to indulge her" be better? Any other suggestions that would convey this idea better?

Thanks!
