What is the difference between "wedstrijd" and "partij"? They both seem to mean game, and I see them often in Dutchlanguage chess blogs or articles as "schaakpartijen", "toernooipartijen", "clubwedstrijd", or "schaakwedstrijden". My only guess is that a "wedstrijd" is more important than a "partij", as in a "wedstrijd" would be more suitable to be used for an important tournament, and "partij" would be more suitable for a leisurely game, but I am not sure if that is correct.

Basically a 'wedstrijd' is a competition and a 'partij' is a game. They are more or less interchangeable in the same way they are in English.
