welcome somebody to /into some place

Hi,

What is the difference between to and into in these senteces:
They welcomed him to their house.
They welcomed him into their house.

I see no difference, but I think to and into are two distinct words.

    They are indeed two distinct words, but sometimes they can have overlapping uses. Here, the main difference is that 'into' is more idiomatic than 'to'.
