what do you mean by this expression or what do you mean with

    Is it better to say: "what do you mean by this expression" or "what do you mean with this expression" ?

    "What do you mean by this expression" sounds slightly more idiomatic to me, marika26. The other version is also perfectly understandable, but I'd expect the first version from a native English-speaker.
