What's biting you?

Hi,

Another idiom from Cambridge Idioms Dictionary, 2nd ed. (2006): "What's biting you?" It's explained as "something that you say in order to ask why someone is in a bad mood."

It's given as "informal" without any mention of "British," and yet I have never seen it in American English. Is it used at all in AmE, and, if so, is it common?
