wheeling up the other way

Does this mean that they were "going up in the opposite direction"?

Ixions of the slow Wheel of the day
They had come down at last, but not to stay,
And at the fall of night, with even sway,
Were slowly wheeling up the other way.

Roy Campbell: "Christ in the Hospital" (Mithraic Emblems).

That sounds right to me, Bloomcountry. As Campbell begins the stanza with "Ixions of the slow Wheel of the day", the image is graphic and should likely be taken literally. That means that they continued to wheel around and were now coming up the other side.
