Why human this word is countable?

Senior Member
I was reading an example sentence in a dictionary.

It said, "Humans are descended from ape-like creatures."

I wonder why humans are countable. Is
that because humans are composed of people from vari
ous races?

As we know the word, people, is uncountalbe. How do we explain why human is a countable noun?

Most of the words that refer to people are countable - person, human, human being, man, woman, child, etc. People is the exception. The fact that it isn't countable (at least not usually) isn't an indication that the other words that refer to people are similarly uncountable.
