(With this dress, the best is) commandant [commando]

Ali, an obscure but talented fashion designer, who tried to persuade Lynn a celeb to wear dress she designed for a ceremony.

When Lynn arrived at her studio, and saw the dress, she liked it at once. The neckline is plunging. Lynn asked whether she could wear it now, but she told Ali that she was wearing ugly underwear. Ali's mechanist responded, "Underwear? Who needs it. With this dress, the best is commandant."

I don't think commandant refers to an officer in this context. I guess it refers to wear nothing inside but the dress only. But there is only one entry for commandant in my dictionary. Could someone enlighten me about it?

Thank you
