Hello,

6:45 A.M. Pots coming in very fast. Decide to clock operation while we are still in ten to twelve feet of water. Works out to fifty seconds between time marker buoy is gaffed and the emptied and rebaited pot is returned overboard. In between, the crabber must perform some fifteen separate and sometimes simultaneous actions……

How can I interpret the part in bold? I have no idea what it means, especially the word "works".

    It's an abbreviated style, so not all the right words are there: It is 50 s between [the time that the marker buoy is gaffed] and [(the time that) the . . . pot is returned . . .]
