Would or Would have

I'm finding some difficulties in choosing between would as past of will and would as conditional. For example if I want to ask someone whether he would have said something in the past (with the meaning of prediction for future happenings) should I say:"Would you have said that....?" or "would you say that...?".

Yes, if the emphasis is on the prediction, it is irrelevant whether the saying is a real possibility or not.

If the saying is a real possibility - Would you say... ?

If the saying is not a real possibility - Would you have said... ?
