Yes, I have one

Hi all, is "Yes, I have one" a correct response to:

Do you have a car?

A friend of mine insists that I must say "Yes, I do".

Is he right?

    In order of personal preference:
    Yes.
    Yes, I do.
    Yes, I have one.
    Yes, I have a car.

    For me, it's a yes-or-no question. Both of you should usually just say, "Yes." Or "No," if you don't have one. :)

    An observation: English learners often feel they have to repeat quite a lot of the question – it's not necessary, and will often make you sound more formal than you want to be.
