You must be running out of fools

Hi everyone,

I am searching for the meaning of the expression "running out of fools" used in the lyrics of Aretha Franklin's song "Runnin' out of fools".

Here is an extract of the lyrics :
"[...]
You didn't care that you left me there crying
Now you wanna break my heart twice

Is that why you got in touch with me
I guess you must be running out of fools"

[...]

It looks like an idiomatic expression to me, is it ?
Thank you in advance !

Tu dois manquer d'imbéciles (plus neutre que le fém. idiote)
Tu n'as sans doute pas trouvé d'autre imbécile
