The "-er" part means a person or thing that does something. So a "zinger" is something that "zings",
just like a dancer dances, a singer sings, and a kicker kicks.

What is the action of "zinging"? I don't know. This doesn't sound good to me.

I've never used the word 'zinger', but I believe it means a fast, clever, funny answer.
I remember the word now. I heard it on some comedy TV show, 15 or 20 years ago.

A "zinger" was an insulting joke. In the show, people tried to insult each other in funny ways. Those were "zingers".
